This is a cut-down version of the Honeycomb neighbourhood. It has the same sort of relationship to this that the von Neumann neighbourhood has to the Moore neighbourhood. It's useful when tring to minimise the number of neighbours in order to produce small, compact rules. The dotted lines in the diagram are designed to indicate that each cell is treated in the same way. When other cells are considered, the neighbourhood's domain should be translated, and not rotated or reflected.
